Vertical Funding

$2.1 Million for Atlanta Fire Station Improvements

On April 17, 2023 members of the Atlanta City Council unanimously passed legislation sponsored by Council Member Matt Westmoreland making a donation of discretionary dollars in the amount of $1.6 million for significant investment in improvements and upgrades for fire stations in 9 Atlanta Districts. Since that time, an additional $500,000 has been committed to the Foundation for additional improvements.

Progress Overview

Over 115 scopes of Work Identified With 70% complete in less than 12 months

Identified project scopes have been categorized by the following:

Quality of Life Initiatives:

  • Improving living and working conditions.

  • Upgrading bedrooms with bunk partitions to increase privacy. 

Health and Safety Initiatives:

  • Supporting cancer prevention measures. 

Gender Neutral Initiatives:

  • Installation of partitions to support gender neutrality.

  • Bathroom upgrades to support a more inclusive and comfortable living environment.

Project History and Phase Implementation

April 17,2023: Legislation unanimously passed by members of Atlanta City Council

 

June 29, 2023: Mayor Andre Dickens, Members of City Council, and Supporters host Ceremonial Signing at Atlanta Fire Rescue Station #10.

July 17, 2023: Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation receives deposited funding dollars.

August 30, 2023: Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation announces Impact Development Management (IMPACT) construction project management firm to assist with capital improvement projects for existing fire stations and facilities across the City of Atlanta.

October 12, 2023: Maren Construction selected as project general contractor and Harris + Smith chosen as architecture and engineering partner for station improvements.

 

November 2023: Fire Station site visits performed by AFRD, AFRF, IMPACT, Harris + Smith, and Maren for Phase 1 and phase 2 projects.

December 2023: Initial rounds of drawings and pricing received for project commencement.

January 2024: Construction Kickoff: Beginning of onsite construction activities

District 5: Stations 4, 13, and 18

PHASE 2 Station Improvements Include:

District 1: Stations 2 and 10

District 10: Stations 9 and 25

District 12: Station 20 and 24

PHASE 3 Station Improvements Include:

District 2: Stations 12 and 15

District 4: Stations 7 and 14

District 7: Station 21

District 11: Stations 5 and 31
