Technology and Equipment
Equipping Our Heroes for a Safer Tomorrow.
The Technology and Equipment Impact Portfolio of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation focuses on enhancing modernization and providing essential equipment for the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. This portfolio includes the Modernization and Sustainability Program, which promotes innovative and sustainable practices, and the Fire Station Fund Program, which improves the quality of life in fire stations. Together, these initiatives are designed to benefit Atlanta firefighters and the residents they serve, ensuring operational readiness and the continued delivery of high-quality emergency response.

Modernization and Sustainability Program
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation's Modernization and Sustainability Program is designed to align with the City of Atlanta's sustainability goals while enhancing the operational readiness of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. This program focuses on adopting modern technologies and practices that not only strengthen response capabilities but also improve long-term efficiency and sustainability.
At the heart of the program is the foundation’s commitment to electrification efforts, including the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) into the fire department's fleet. EVs are considered easier to service and repair than traditional diesel trucks, supporting the city’s commitment established in 2017 to enhance EV readiness and position Atlanta as a leading city in sustainability.
In addition to electric vehicles, the Modernization and Sustainability Program advocates for the adoption of emerging technologies such as drones and advanced equipment that improve mobility, situational awareness, and overall sustainability. These tools facilitate the department’s ability to adapt to evolving demands and enhance their response capabilities while reducing long-term operational strain.
All investments made through this program are carefully evaluated and coordinated with department leadership to ensure alignment with operational needs and adherence to safety standards. By supporting this program, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation is committed to equipping firefighters with the resources they need to serve the community effectively while promoting sustainable practices.
First EV Quick Response Units
To date, successes of the program have led to the creation of the pilot and purchase initiative of the Department’s first ever EV quick response vehicles.
Successes:
Fire Station Fund
The Fire Station Fund is dedicated to enhancing quality-of-life improvements across all 36 Atlanta fire stations. Firefighters spend long shifts living and working in their stations, and this program ensures that these spaces are functional, supportive, and equipped to meet their daily needs.
Through the Fire Station Fund, individual fire stations can submit requests for approved items that enhance their operations and day-to-day life. These requests may include essential equipment such as commercial-grade washers and dryers that effectively remove carcinogens from turnout gear, along with other shared resources that improve the work environment. Requests are submitted by station leadership and reviewed collaboratively with department leadership. Upon approval, the Foundation purchases and delivers the requested items directly to the station.
Recognizing that not all fire stations have equal access to donor support, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation prioritizes maintaining station houses to ensure every firefighter has access to the same amenities. To address disparities across the department while honoring donor intent, a portion of the contributions to the Fire Station Fund is allocated to support stations that receive little or no direct funding.
Fire stations function as both workplaces and living spaces. When properly supported, firefighter wellness improves, morale increases, and crews are better equipped to serve the city safely and effectively.
Supporters have the option to contribute to a specific fire station or to the Fire Station Fund as a whole. Every contribution plays a crucial role in ensuring that Atlanta’s firefighters have access to essential quality-of-life resources, regardless of where they are stationed.
